Research Interests & Projects

Assistant Extension Specialist of Entomology

University of Hawaii at Manoa

2020-Present

Central to my investigative pursuits is the  exploration of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) paradigms. IPM, as a systemic and sustainable strategy, transcends conventional chemical modalities. The combination of biological control, cultural methodologies, and judicious pesticide application embodies a holistic approach to pest mitigation. My work is the practical exploration of how we can harmonize the needs of agriculture with the preservation of biodiversity, aiming to implement strategies that reconcile agricultural exigencies with biodiversity preservation initiatives.

The foundational tenet of my research corpus resides in the nuanced examination of insect population dynamics and tri-trophic interactions. Investigating the regulatory forces governing their proliferation and spatial distribution, my work seeks to unravel the cascading ramifications on diverse ecological substrates. I seek to furnish nuanced insights capable of informing targeted and efficacious pest management strategies, eschewing generic methodologies that may inadvertently yield negative consequences.

I am further interested in plant-insect interactions, and dissecting mechanisms such as chemical signaling, co-evolutionary dynamics, and environmental determinants. My research endeavors to decode the vulnerabilities and strengths inherent in these biotic interactions. The aim is to contribute empirically grounded insights that underpin the strategies not only for pest management, but also for the cultivation of optimal plant health within agroecosystems

Adopting a systems-thinking paradigm, my investigations within the realm of Agroecology encompasses the intricate nexus between agriculture and the broader milieu. Emphasizing sustainable and resilient agricultural systems, my interdisciplinary inquiry navigates the terrain of how agroecological principles can be harnessed to optimize the sustainable productivity of agroecosystems while fostering biodiversity and ameliorating environmental impacts.
